Posts: 29 05/17/09 11:52:33	For you local guys or anyone that's going to visit this year; due to the diligence of Mike Clark, the Town of Lyons has passed an Ordinance making both the North & South St.Vrain, within the Town limits, Catch & Release! The trout had been seriously depleted by the "weekenders" picnics in our beautiful parks. The Division of Wildlife is going to stock the rivers with Hofer Rainbows as the St. Vrain is whirling disease positive. There are still a few Browns to be caught and released right now. The local chapter of Trout Unlimited is having it's River Clean-up Day on June 13. They have chosen Lyons in recognition of accomplishing the Ordinance. Anyone who would like to volunteer would be a great help. Actually will probably be a good time as there will be many events happening in Lyons that whole weekend. And when the DOW puts in all those 3" rainbows this fall we might see some even bigger well fed browns next spring. I'll have to get my little rainbow trout streamer pattern perfected. Posts: 29 06/03/09 05:04:28	There is a large group of people that aided Mike in this effort beginning with Ben Swigle of the Division of Wildlife, Phil Cavendor who's sage advice and suggestions really got things rolling and introducing us to the key players of the St. Vrain Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited. TU knowledge, information, and professionalism threw it over the top with Lyons town officials. A large host of local fly fisherman (too many to mention by name ~ thank you!) attended all of the Town meetings to lend their support. In conjunction with TU, The Laughing Grizzly Fly Shop and Front Range Anglers raffled a fly rod to raise funds for Catch & Release signage. Mike has donated a South Creek Ltd. Reel with hard cover leather case; Cronin Jewelers has donated (will be custom made for the winner) their classic Mountain Range 14k White & Yellow Gold ring with choice of Range; both to be auctioned at Oskar Blues on June 13. Several local individuals have also made monetary donations to Lyons Parks & Recreation earmarked to cover C&R signage and associated expenses. A huge thank you to all ~ you have helped save the rivers and the trout population in your neighborhood. We hope to see you all in Lyons enjoying the fruits of your efforts.

My personal thanks to everyone involved, you have made a great contribution to angling on the front range. Way to go Mike and Kathy!!!!

Posts: 13 06/15/09 12:41:49	On Saturday, Mike joined the St. Vrain Anglers Chapter of Trout Unlimited, Kingsley Outfitters of Boulder, and local fly fisherman from Lyons, Fort Lupton, Boulder, and many more (please forgive any omissions!) to gather quite a few bags of trash on the South St. Vrain. They encountered property owners along the river who thanked them for their efforts and even a few dog-walkers thanked them, too! On Sunday, the organization, "Leave No Trace" cleaned the North St. Vrain ~ and we thank them for their efforts, as well. We're waiting to hear from Lyons Parks & Recreation Dept. about when the Catch & Release signs will be posted. Please do come and enjoy the rivers and visit our little town! Posts: 13 07/09/09 11:49:28	Today the North & South St. Vrain Rivers were stocked with Hofer Rainbows crossed with Harrison Lake Rainbow Trout; then crossed again with Snake River Cutthroats. In a nutshell they will have the best combination of genetic resistance to WD combined with the swimming ability of a Snake River Cutt. They're tiny but 28,000 strong and tough. This is the culmination of more than a year's work with the essential help of Ben Swigle, Fish Biologist from the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Another huge thank you goes out to Town Of Lyons Mayor Julie Vandomlen and to the Board of Trustees for their support and understanding the value of revitalizing the St. Vrain Fishery. The politics can make one want to do like Merl Haggard said and move to the 'middle of Montana' So that being said: *I guess I will forgive you for getting me addicted to bamboo rod building!* Yes it was you, Mike who whether you knew it or not, got me hooked on this back when you sold me a book called "The Bamboo Rod" by Claude M. Krieder (this was prior to the reprint of Garrison's book or the release of Cattanach's book) and sold me a culm of cane. I also remember you giveing me a partial culm and telling me "here practice spliting this and then move on to your good culm. Well that practice culm became my first rod even though I could only get one tip out of it. (Maybe I'll bring it to the Colorado Conclave!) I still have it, even though it belongs to my son, and I might add that I am quite proud of it. OK sorry for the trip down memory lane, but this is my way of thanking you for your many contributions both personal and public.
