Hey everybody, hope you are all well. I am having a problem with my Cummins mini lathe, I think that the headstock and tailstock are not properly aligned and I
am having trouble getting a drill bit to bore through a reel seat striaght. I can see that there is adjustment in the tailstock alignment via set screws and
lock bolts, but I would appreciate help as to tricks and methods of assuring that the two are properly aligned. (I am not a machinist and don"t play one
on TV.) The Rio Grande is still high and colored but the runoff is going to end quickly this year, if the rain ever stops. Ray

i put a dial indicator in the tool post holder,you have to play with shimming it to get it centered.then put a straight round rod in the head stock chuck and
bring the indicator up to it,turn the chuck by hand and see if it is out,if good move the indicator down the rod using the saddle.if thats good do not touch
the indicator,but put the rod in the tail stock chuck and check,then make adjustments as needed,thanks steve

Hi from Santa Fe..............A quick and dirty way of setting headstock/tailstock alignment is to chuck up a pointed rod on the headstock then chuck up a
pointed rod on the tailstock using the drill chuck or 60 degree live or dead center. Bring both points together and make adjustments to the tailstock until the
two points come together, point to point. KERMIT
