Dave: Is the penny the suggested retail price of these ferrules?

Didn't even know they made brass Super Zs... How old you do recon they are?
Pretty cool, thanks for sharing. MIKE |

Really neat Dave! You just never know what you are going to find when you clean up the shop. I just found an original Thompson rod wrapper with the receipt.
Eric Leiser sold it to me for the princely sum of $9.75. Russ Gooding's new version of this classic wrapper costs quite a bit more as it should given the
inflation we have experienced. Also found some spools of wrapping thread, black and white jasper labeled "100 % silk" with no maker listed.
These finds will be of great use when I soon begin to build my first bamboo fly rod.
Have any guesses as to the cost when you purchased these?

From what little I know, they only stamped the Super Z Logo for a short time at the beginning...
So I would guess there about 1948/49 Vintage but that's just a guess... I have never seen the brass either, matter of fact only seen one pair of N/S Ferrules with the stamp ever... But there is much more to the story, here's a cool piece J.D. Wagner did on Louis Feierabend... Louis Feierabend

Funny Gary...
I use a Original Thompson Rod Wrapper to wrap every rod I have done... Just in a box of junk, not sure where they came from...

I picked up some big ferrules on Eshbay last spring. Didn't look at them until later, but they're Super Z's with the stamp also. These have a
blackened finish though.

Dave:
Now I know I made the right choice on that Thompson. It is
"old" just like your Super-Z ferrules but oft times older is better (more proven).
The simpler and thriftier the better. I can now use the wrapper to make those natty two thread accent wraps that Joe illuminated in his recent post.
That is after I do the obligatory pine pitch scrounging.
