Just want to get some feedback from a few of what they are currenty building.
Right now I've got a 7' 4wt rod on a George Maurer taper I got off David Rays Taper Library http://www.uwm.edu/~stetz...apers/drtapers/index.html.
Thought I would build a rod in George's honor.

A Payne Canadian Canoe dark tiger strip, which looks real nice And an 8ft 3piece 5wt fast action with mortised butt and bamboo slim line ferrules. Pictures to follow

Frank, Did you attend the Fly Fishing show last weekend? The Dietrich Bros. were there and have revived Georges Sweetwater Rod Co. They had the last rod that
George finish before he past away and I think it was the 7' 4wt? Just curious if you saw it or not?

I missed the George Maurer rod. Darn! Too much going on in one place at one time. I've built four Driggs in 2 piece and love them. Using both the tapers provided by Wayne C and Ron Barch in the Planning Form Vol 2. Throws a nice smooth oily line. Frank |

You might try using a good line cleaner! Upside they probably float fairly well!

I'm working on four rods still, for my family and a friend as holliday presents. All are Dickerson 7613s. I averaged the butt section from the '52 and
'70 tapers, then built one tip using the '52, and another with the '70 taper. I finished my brother's rod, and the '70 taper casts a 4 wt.
wonderfully, and the '52 casts a 5 wt. just as well. These rods are my first noded, six-sided rods, and I'm pretty happy with them so far. I cast my
mom's rod yesterday, with the '70 tapered tip, and it casts the 4 wt. just like my brother's rod--oily;-) I'll get some photos in the next day
or two.

Got three going here Frank. First is an 8 1/2 foot, 5 wt, with tip over butt cane ferrule. Second is a 7'3", 4 wt, with a morticed butt. The last
is a 7', 2 wt. The two is a soft rod for sure but it's future owner wanted that for small streams ect. fishing for native brookies. If I were building
it for myself, I'd modify the taper to 6'6'' and try to do something about the .043 tips.

I've got three rods in the works now, an 8' 5/6 wt that is a prototype (guess that means I get to keep it), that is due its last coat of finish, a
Perfectionist taper in a 71/2 ft #4 that is about ready to go in the dip tank, and I just cooked strips for another 71/2 footer that I haven't chosen a
taper for just yet. Ray

I am finishing a flamed 209E for my main fishing buddy. Coincidentally, my friend Jim is finishing a blond 209E right now as well, so we will do some casting
comparisons when they are both done. I must say that having a partner in crime has added a really fun new dimension to rod making for me. If you happen to
live near another maker I would highly recommend getting together.
Next up for me is a version of a Granger 8040 that was posted by John Channer some time back over on Clark's. -Dan |

I am working on two. I just took the glue off a para 14 blank and I have rough planed the strips for my steelhead rod (a Garrison 221E). Both are being held
up while I put the last coat of paint on my dipping/drying cabinet. I have built five rods so far and have not been happy with the finishing process. After
trying a drip tube and the turkey baster I got up the courage to cut a hole in the basement floor. Then I need to install the cabinet over the hole in the
basement floor that I cut for the dip tube. In the hole I installed metal tube wrapped with the heating element from an eletric blanket. I wrapped this with
fiber glass (sides and bottom) to fit snuggly in the 6" pvc tube in the basement floor. I will cut a hole in the bottom of the cabinet so I can set the
varnish tube through the hole in the cabinet and into the steel tube.

Waara Spey - Split Granger 8642 Hollow built Bamboo Ferrules - roughed and the butt section final planed Thramer 444 DX Bamboo Ferrules - glued and out of the strings with the ferrule wrapped and epoxied. Perfectionist - Split and node work done, ready to be roughed Dickerson 7012 - final planed waiting to be glued Dickerson 8013 hollow built - Glued, sanded, waiting to be straightened. O.k. So I have six in the works. The first 3 are most likely for me and are really all experiments in hollow building or bamboo ferrules. The next two are ones I have wanted to make so I started because I had some down time. The last one is for a paying customer so the others have all been put on the back burner until I get this one to the finishing stage. |

I'm varnishing wraps (and waiting for them to dry) on a Driggs that will be doanated to a local flyfishing organization and utilized in a fundraiser.
It's been a rod that's fought me most of the way, and that doesn't happen much. I'll be glad to get it dipped, dried & out the door. 
After that, I have orders for another Driggs & two Perfectionists |

i have just started 5,3 are 8' star hollowed 5wts ,1 7'9" star hollowed 4wt. this is a prototype,and a 8'6" solid built 6wt. thanks steve

Ya know it seems that folks just can't get enough of those Midge rods! My guess is its b/c of the lightness, short lenght, and accuracy that defies what
they are used to thinking bamboo rods are...?

I'm a big Paul Young fan - straightening strips for a 7 1/2 ft 5wt that is heavily influenced by a Martha Marie Model - Monday will be gluing up a 7'
4' 4wt and a straight 6 of the same rod. Also have a 6' 2wt to be final dipped. Pulled a pole and am ordering titanium parts for a bonefish rod next -
gonna see how far I can push this Pentalux rod shape.

Hi,
indenpendently from Rob Smith´s Pentalux-Rods last year I got an idea of building a penta with 3 hex strips and 2 quad strips. This winter me and two machinists built my first quad-form which came out pretty nice. After a few trial and error tests I think I got a rod which casts pretty nice. Took a taper of a tip action hex-rod and planed each for tip and butt 3 hex-strips for the downside where the guides came on and 2 indetically quad-strips for the upper side. Yesterday made some cast tests with a friend of mine which casts much better than me. He also discribed her like a mixture of a Quad and a Hex - the rod got a feeling of a nearly parabolic Quad and also the power of a faster Hex. Rob - perhaps you read this few words and could imagine what I mean. Yesterday I lost the words for discribing the rod but still get a smile on my face if I thought of it. Wow, I just clicked on Friedrich's link in his post and was impressed by his work.
I hope my German is not too bad, it took me 10 minutes with my English/German dictionary to cogitate. Superb craftsmanship.

Your german is perfect - without a mistake! If you really needed 10 minutes for this sence - perhaps you can imagine how long I often need for complete threads 
Especially special words like tools for lathes or mills or so are the most difficult for me. Wrapped yesterday the new rod and if I get the time I will varnishing her this week. Thanks, Friedrich ...sorry for my poor english
