Very nice, I especially like the accent wrap in the center of the ferrule wraps.

Great craftsmanship bbamboo. Stunning finish work. As a prospective bamboo rod maker it was casting a node-less para 15 that got me interested in making my
own bamboo fly rods. I'll bet that is a suave casting rod too.
If the methods aren't proprietary would you mind telling us more about the rod? Is it node-less ( I can't tell)? What style of hollow building did you use? What forms do you use? Any general advice for a neophyte? Congratulations on your new rod.

The latest pictures really show some nice details. I can't wrap at all so you have really made me envious showing that nice finish work.

Hi the hollow build is finished to a wall thickness of 70thou I leave dams solid sections every 6 inches or so
I simply shim the bamboo strip and you can ether just file out the centre or sand out the middle with a dremel drill and a sanding disk The shims need to be the thickness of the finished rod section ie 70 thou here. There is some picture of a hollow rod here. http://www.nichobamboorods.com/Price-List Thanks for the kind words. I am just finishing a 6.5 ft midge I will post a picture in a few days. You answer is the same as I get from everybody else when asking about the distance dams are apart in a rod shaft. The spacing seems to be an emperical figure. My thoughts are to determine the optimum spacing as a function of wall thickness and overall thickness of the blank. I do not have any information on this at this time. If I ever get a chance I plan to do some testing to determine what that optimum spacing might be. My own rods are hollow fluted. Any rod can benifit in the performance department with some hollowing. fishbum |

I think the major concern has to be strength in the glue joint. As long as the contact between two spines offered is up to the task. And the rod shaft does not blow apart.
I have done hollowing a few ways. Took a midge rod down to 50 thou once ( totally hollow) Apart from around the ferrule area Still going strong that rod Fished regularly over 10 yrs.
One a different note Anyone tried a balsa core Very little weight and still have the original glue area You can take the walls of the bamboo right down
Maybe I could show this some time.
