Dave,
Well, I finally gave the Cholla a real day on the water. I had tried it on the Yuba last year but got rained out pretty fast. Anyway, I hit Harriman's Ranch on the Henry's Fork and the bugs were thick! In the morning I fished another Young rod...an 8'6" 5wt Prosperity. This is actually one of my favorites as its Youngs lowest grade rod, but typical of Young, it is just a qaulity taper. I picked off a few fish in the morning; which wasn't too hard since the PMD's were thick. Anyway, in the afternoon I put a nice 5dt Cortland Peach on the 7'9" Hollow Para 14 Cholla you made for me last year and WOW. Dave, I didn't think any rod would surpass the Special Trouter as my favorite go to rod, but this may be it. I used the lighter tip and the action on this rod is just incredible. Just a perfect dry fly action and even though its on the longer side it's really a fantastic point and shoot rod. What I found pretty interesting was that because the cholla grip is a little heavier than cork, it really made the hollowed cane feel like even lighter than it is. It felt like I was casting a 3wt rod and not a 5wt. Incredible. Anyway, this baby can throw some serious line and I didn't even used the other tip which I know was made for bigger flies and nymps. I managed a few nice cutts between 10-12 inches and basically had to get off the water because their were too many flies. No joke. Dave, I am sure I will be ordering another Cholla if you are still making them. I attached some pics of this rod as it is a stunner. Definetly not the glamour shots you put on the site, but everything about this rod is impessive. I had more compliments on this rod than any other I own. I am just pissed I waited this long to really give it some qaulity river time! That won't happen again. Now...bring on the Driggs that's coming my way!
