Goodwin Granger Champion |

Gents... and whatever ladies would care to comment... I posted on Clark's forum about this... and really thought that, with all the "experts"
there, I'd get a reasonable response... uh-uh... nuttin' Anyway, I'm looking to find out the COLOR PATTERN and GUIDE SIZE AND SPACING for a Goodwin
Granger 9' 6" Champion rod. I know it's not worth a ton of money, but it's one of the less expensive classics and Granger's are better
than average for a production rod. It's a '36, so it should be in the classic style, I assume. If anyone HERE can help me out, I's be MOST
appreciative. If no one here knows I guess I'll have to bug everyone Monday on the rodmaker's list. thanks in advance... Mike

Hi Mike,
After reading you're post, I tried to get you some info on that Granger "Champion". All I could gather was that the wraps were red with black tipping. Good luck buddy, I'll try some of the collectors out this way and see what shakes out. Billy |

Hey, Billy... Thanks. I was reading up that "most" of the Granger rods had green wraps. The problem was that "most" doesn't say for
sure, and no mention of tippings was made. I won't be wrapping it for a while, too much else to work on, so if you find anything more, please let me know.
thanks again, Mike

Mike,
Here's a quote form Colorado Classic Cane, The header on the page says these were 'Reprinted for the 1941 Goodwin Granger Company' "Wrapped at guides and ferrules with genuine red silk and black border winds...." By the way this rod sold for $12.00 Extra sections - Butt, $4.50 Middle, $3.00 Tip, $2.50 Hope this helps. Joe Arguello |

Hey, Joe,
THANKS! '41 is close enough for this one. I'll try to make it look like it cost a good $20 anyway... :) (Between the Monty's and Grangers there must have either been a GLUT of red silk or a shortage for the rest of the world!) I was hoping to get some info on spacing, all I've found are some pics of a Champion with the sig about halfway up to the stripper (a simple signature wrap). best, Mike Mike St. Clair

The Classic Era is color preserved Chinese Red, tipped black and the guide spacing as follows...
Tip Top / 6.5" / 13" / 20.5" / 28.5" / 37" & 40.5" feet on ferrules / 50" / 61.5" / 75" foot on ferrule / 83.5" 10mm Red Agateen Stripper... I'd up the guide size from original as they used very small guides by todays standards, original started with 0/2 and ended with a 10mm stripping guide. I'd start with a 1 and end with a 12mm stripping guide ( snake brand ), this will increase the performance of the rod by 25%. The Chinese Red is color preserved and is a fire red ( on the orange side ) not a bright red. I have all the original Granger silks in stock and if your really nice I might send you a spool..."-)
